Juan Alejandro's story
Juan dreams of becoming a commercial engineer. He is currently enrolled in a degree program at the San Fransisco Xavier University but with his currently financial status he is unable to purchase the materials he needs, which is crippling his performance in school. Juan shares with us that without a computer it is difficult to learn and practice the practical component of his degree and it is inconvenient and even challenging to complete his thesis without consistent access to a computer and the internet. Much of engineering is computer based and without one, he feels that he is falling behind. Although Juan is the youngest of two, his household supports eight people in total. While both his parents are college educated, their family finances are very tight. With the aid of a student loan Juan plans to buy a laptop and the books and materials that will help him succeed. He chose commercial engineering because the field interested him and because he perceived a need for it in the job market. He hopes to be able to use his salary to help his family’s finances. In addition to his classes and study sessions, Juan holds a part time job. Currently he makes around $8,600 a year but with a degree in engineering he hopes to be able to double his salary, maybe even more. The prospect of a secure salary and in turn, a secure future for himself and his family is worth the sacrifice and extra work now. With the security of loan, Juan can be confident that he can afford his full education and be able to help move his life and his family forward. This loan is administered by Vittana's partner Banco Fie.
