It consists of 21 entrepreneurs who work in various areas, among which are: selling paintings, selling clothing, selling bread, selling fast food, selling charcoal, selling perfume, and services, among others. All the members are from the city of Concepción.. Juana, a member of this communal bank, is standing in the photo. She is in the sixth place going from right to left. She is wearing a blue T-shirt with white dots. Her hair is tied back, and in her hands she has a folder. She has been selling general merchandise for a month. She comments that she furnished a space beside her house to set up her store. She works from Monday to Sunday from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm. She offers her customers all types of candy, merchandise, and groceries. She buys the merchandise and supplies that she needs to stock her store in various supermarkets at low cost, thus it is economically expedient. With the loan, she will buy a display case to arrange her merchandise. One of Juana's goals is to continue growing and to generate more income to opt for a better quality of life and offer a good step forward to her children. Juana lives with her husband and their two children, ages 20 and 10, who are in school. Her dreams for her work are to enlarge her shop and have more merchandise to offer her customers, and for her family, to offer a good education to her children. She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity offered through Fondo Esperanza, since it will allow her to invest in her business. With regard to the communal bank of which she is a part, she comments that there is very good communication in the group. In addition, the training has served her by allowing her to learn new strategies for sales and accounting. Concepción was settled at the mouth of the Bíobío river, one of the largest in the country, in the south of Chile in the Bíobío region. An important part of Chile's history, being the seat of important battles and substantial settlement, especially during the War of Arauco, because it was on the border of the Mapuche territory. Now the city has important economic and demographic development, having come to be considered one of the most important demographic, administrative, financial, and commercial urban centers of Chile, after Santiago and Valparaíso.
