A loan helped to buy pagnes.

Ramata's story

Mrs. RAMATA, age 33, is a married mother of three children. She lives with her husband in a nuclear family in the district of Pelengana, in Segou (fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Having never attended school for social reasons, she started to work alongside her mother who was selling oil and condiments. This apprenticeship lasted 15 years, then her experience led her to the sale of clothing, which she has been doing on her own for five years. She has a large customer base consisting mainly of women. To bolster her working capital and meet customer demand, she turned to the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso 12 months ago. Having correctly repaid her first individual loan, she is now seeking a second loan to buy 22 wax pagnes. She buys her merchandise locally. Mrs. RAMATA sells at retail, for cash and on credit to a clientele composed primarily of women. She hopes that this loan will help her to earn a monthly profit of 44,000FCFA, which will allow her to help with some of the family expenses.
