Nermin's Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a new sewing machine and a small generator.

Nermin's Group's story

Nermin is a 38-year-old Iraqi woman. She is married and is a mother of 5 children. With limited career options due to cultural restrictions and domestic constraints, Nermin is one of the many Iraqi woman who is working from home, using her sewing skills to generate some income and participate in meeting the financial needs of her family. Nermin learned to sew years ago and she has 2 years experience with her little home-based sewing and tailoring business. To improve her work and be able to offer greater variety of services to her customers, she would like to buy some new tools and quality materials to work with. She would also like to make an investment and buy a new sewing machine and a small generator to allow her to work during the random and rather frequent power cuts in the city. To be able to make these purchases Nermin took a loan from Relief International - Microfinance Iraq. Relief International - Microfinance Iraq offers group loans for clients unable to provide a guarantor - thereby unable to apply for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of 3 to 5 clients and each client is evaluated on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group.
