Kara Group's story
The photo shows the two members of the Kara Group. They are small scale business women based in Makeni, a city in Northern Sierra Leone. They are requesting a loan of 1,700,000 Sierra Leonean Leones. With the help of this loan, these ladies will be able to further expand on the quality and quantity of their respective businesses. The leader of this group is Aminata. Aminata is 48 years old. She was born in Makeni, where she currently resides with her husband and four children. Her husband is an electrician and her children attend primary and secondary school. Aminata sells clothes – gara lappers (locally dyed clothes) and Bamako clothes (clothes dyed in Mali). She has been a business woman for 25 years now.
