Diversidades Group's story

This communal bank is called "Diversidades" ("Diversities") and it's comprised of 15 entrepreneurs who are in various lines of work. Among them are owning a sales stall, owning a gym, making crafts, selling eggs, making pastries, manufacturing covers, providing services, etc. All of them belong to the township of Independencia, located in the city of Santiago. Cynthia is the president of the communal bank. In the photo she's pictured standing up in the front row, the third one from right to left. She's wearing a coffee-colored jacket and a salmon-colored shirt, and she carries a black purse with a shoulder strap. Her hair is dark brown and she wears it down. She's been a veterinarian for the past 10 years. She reports that she works alongside 20 people who provide vaccines, neutering and worming for both domestic and stray animals. She works Monday through Saturday; on weekdays she neuters and examines the animals, and on Saturdays she provides vaccines. At her home she has 30 dogs as pets. She organizes her working hours according to her availability, since she occasionally visits her clientele in their homes. She buys the merchandise and supplies she needs from various distributors at low prices, which is financially convenient. With this loan she'll purchase an ultrasound machine for cleaning pets' teeth. One of Cynthia's goals is to set up a veterinary clinic along with her fellow workers. That way she'll increase her earnings in order to grow and set up a veterinary hospital. Cynthia lives with her mother. Her personal and professional dream is to set up a veterinary clinic. She's very glad and thankful for the opportunity she's been given by Fondo Esperanza, since it will allow her to invest in her business. As for the communal bank she belongs to, she reports that they have very good communication. On the other hand, the trainings have helped her to learn new sales and accounting strategies. Independencia is one of the 34 townships that comprise the city of Santiago (the capital of Chile), located in the middle-north area. It surfaced in the late 19th century as a traditional area of town. Its main axis is Independencia Avenue, through which passed the ancient Inca Trail, the north entrance to the city of Santiago. Given its large indigenous population, Independencia is home to Chile's Indigenous Cultural Center. It also has important historical buildings, such as six historical monuments of Chile.
