Lorena Del Rocio's story
The members of the "Mujeres En Acción" communal bank meet every two weeks in the city of Puertoviejo, capital of Manabi province, a place known for many years as the "City of the Royal Tamarinds." Lorena is 40 years old and in a common-law relationship. She has two children, ages nine and eight, who are in school. Her husband is a mechanic. She looks after her home and is also a businessperson. She sells clothing of all kinds, but what she sells the most is women's and children's clothing. She also sells Oriflame and Sayson products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and ladies' accessories). She sells door-to-door and works Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 AM until 4 PM, though if some customer wants something and calls her, she receives it at her home, where she also has a display case with her merchandise. She has been in her business for more than 10 years and it gives her very good income. This loan is to buy clothing, especially for women and girls, as well as creams, perfumes, etc. She has been in the communal bank for 10 years and likes it because with the first loan, she started her business. Her dream is to have a car, and for her business to grow.
