Chhoern's story

Chhoern is a 60-year-old widowed mother of four children. She still has one granddaughter to take care of who is still in school. She lives in a rural area of the Bovel district of Battambang province, Cambodia. To make a living, Chhoern has been involving in growing cassava for 44 years. The current business earns her about 25,000 KHR per day. She manages her to save about 15,000 KHR each day after deducting daily expenses. Insufficient working capital is the main challenge for her business. Chhoern has been with VisionFund for five cycles and fully paid back her prior loans, which have helped her to expand her plantation business. Now she is requesting a loan with VisionFund of 650,000 KHR. She is going to use this loan to buy fertilizer and cassava seeds for her cassava business and use a portion of it to pay labor fees for plowing the field. She hopes to grow her cassava fruitfully and timely in order to sell it for a good price and keep her granddaughter in school.
