Mariana Yesica's story
The Esfuerzo y Poder cooperative bank meets every fifteen days in the canton of Olmedo, a place known for its beautiful landscapes and hard-working people dedicated to farming and raising livestock. This is where Mariana, 28, lives with her husband and their two children, ages 11 and 7. The oldest studies at school and the youngest started kindergarten this year. Her husband is a merchant. Together with her husband, she has a store in her house where she sells all types of basic need products as well as items such as paper goods and diapers, among other things. They work there every day from 6:00 am until 9 pm, and sometimes even later. She helps when she can, given she also must take care of the home and tend to the children when they return from school. They have been in business for 10 years and things are going very well for them. They will use this loan to further supply their store, buying rice, sugar, oil, detergents, canned goods, and other supplies and paper products. She has been in the cooperative bank for five loan cycles, is the secretary of the same, and likes it because the loans the institution offers help her a great deal. Her goals are to continue moving forward with her business and for it to grow more each and every day.
