Teresa's story

Teresa is a member of the communal bank "Mirando hacia un Futuro Mejor" which belongs to the city of Talca. She has worked in the bakery business for ten years. Teresa works Monday thorough Sunday and her schedule depends on her availability, since she works on an order basis or for special events such as parties, lunches or dinners. She buys her merchandise at the different supermarkets in the area, at low cost, which is economically convenient. She will use the loan to buy a bread dough mixer to be able to adapt to different customer requirements. One of Teresa's goals in her business is to continue in this line of work and perfect her skills even further, so her customers are always happy and she can increase her income and lead a better lifestyle. Teresa lives with her daughter who works at a fish shop.. Her family goals are to continue growing and stay healthy to enjoy being with her daughter and enjoy life. She is very content and grateful for the opportunity given her by the Fondo Esperanza, since it has enabled her to invest in her business. And she feels very comfortable with the other members in her communal bank since they share different activities and interests, which has helped her integrate even more in her group. Regarding the training received at the meetings, she has learned to manage her business better. Talca belongs to the region of Maule, located in the central part of the country. It is the administrative, economic and cultural center of the región, and the most important city in the Chilean Central Valley. There is a curious saying about Talca in Chile, that says "Talca, Paris y Londres". Among the myths about this, some say it comes from an Englishman who once said "Talca parece Paris" (Talca is like London) because of the abundant fog that frequently covers the city in winter, like the capital city of the United Kingdom.
