Henry's story

Henry is 48 years old. He lives with his partner and their three children, ages 19 to 22, in the municipality of San Jacinto, in Bolívar department. This is the land of crafts, especially hammocks woven on a vertical loom, and beautiful backpacks, woven with fine thread. Continuing the cultural tradition, two years ago, when his his children went to study in the city of Cartagena de Indias, he took advantage of that opportunity to start a business to support the added expenses of meals and lodging in that city. This was how, having them in Cartagena, he decided to sell crafts, as indeed he did, with their help. Today he sells hammocks and bags, mainly to tourists, students and self-employed workers, to whom he sells without middlemen. He makes his purchases for cash in small stores in the town, that acquire these products directly from the hands of the artisans in the region. Currently, he is applying for a credikiva loan, his first from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, with which he will buy hammocks, bags and various craft items that have been ordered through his pre-sales work. With his credikiva, Henry will increase his sales and thereby his income, which is the main resource he has for improving his family's well-being.
