Sokha's Group's story

Sokha, a 44-year-old mother, lives in a rural village of the Battambang province’s Moung Russey district of Cambodia. She has four sons: all are dependent on her and some are in school. She has been a rice farmer on two hectares of farmland for several years. The lack of water supply for her paddy field is the main challenge for her business. Sokha is in her second loan cycle with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, while the other group members are in their first loan cycle. She has successfully used the first loan to relieve her family’s burden. Now, she is leading her group to request a loan with VisionFund. As the leader, Sokha is going to use her portion to buy fertilizers for her farmland and to use a portion of it to pay for labor costs. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income from her crop yields thus improving her standard of living.
