Layhorn's Group's story
Layhorn, 25, is married and lives with her husband and three children in a village of the Moung Russey district of Battambang province. All of her three children are dependents and under school age. She and her husband are rice farmers and they supplement their family’s income through planting peanuts and maize. She has been in the rice farming business for six years, earning about 17,200 KHR per day to feed her family. The main challenge for her family’s business is lack of water to better grow her crops. Layhorn’s group consists of two members who are female. She is the leader and a third-cycle client with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, while the other member is a second-cycle client. She has successfully paid back the past loans, which have helped her family relieve financial burdens and improve their livelihood. Now she is requesting another loan with VisionFund, Layhorn will use her portion to buy fertilizers and seeds for her farmland. With this loan, she hopes to increase her crop yields and earn more income to improve her family’s living conditions.
