Sarorn's story

Sarorn S. is a 64-year-old widow and mother of six living on an island in Cambodia's Mekong River. Five of her children are married, and her youngest son is studying in the capital city of Phnom Penh, about 15 kilometers away. One of her daughters, her son-in-law, and grandson live in her home.

For nearly two decades, Sarorn has earned a living by weaving silk into cloth. In fact, in her living room are three looms: One for her, one for her daughter, and the last for her grandsom. They sells their finished products to a middle man who then sells them in Phnom Penh. To supplement her family's income, Sarorn also tailors as well.

Sarorn is requesting a loan in the amount of $1,200 U.S. dollars to purchase more silk for her weaving business.
