Phan's story

Phan is 38 years old. She is a married woman living in Prey Chor district with her husband and children, who currently still depend on her income. Phan, together with her husband, works hard in order to educate their children and provide basic needs to the family. She is in a farming business and at the same time she devotes herself to a weaving business at home. She is skillful in weaving handicrafts such as bamboo baskets, a kind of flat two-handled basket, and other woven containers. She usually sells her finished products to local middlemen who come into the village to collect them house to house. Phan’s husband owns a motorcycle and a trailer used for transporting wood, timbers, floorboards and wallboard from other provinces for sale in his home province. His frequent customers are construction wood suppliers in the local area. Phan would like to request a loan from HKL and Kiva in the amount of $1,500 US which will be used by her husband to purchase wood, timbers, floorboards and wallboard for trading. This loan will enable Phan’s husband to go far in his business and she hopes that she will receive a good return through this investment.
