Gastelu's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to purchase a 50 meter fishing net and other implements for fishing.
Gastelu is 30 years old, and lives with his partner, Mariela, and their three-year-old son. They live in the town center of Villa Ashaninkam, in the central Peruvian jungle. Gastelu makes a living as a fisherman, and he fishes the rivers near his home. He begins his daily routine at 5:00 in the morning, and works until 6:00 in the evening, after which he has to wait three hours to hang and dry his nets. He catches about 25 kilograms of fish of various varieties, including: "chupadoras", "doncellas", "barbones" (all different species of fish) and other species. A kilogram of doncella is the most valuable, and sells for 20 soles, while a kilogram of the other varieties sells for 10 soles. Gastelu travels half an hour to the closest city to sell the fish he catches. He also has a small parcel of land where he grows coffee plants, but he only works his land once each year and hires workers seasonally. His main focus is fishing. This is Gastelu's second loan with MFP, and he has always made payments on time. He is also a member of the community bank, "Los Naranjales" (The Oranges), and is grateful for the support he has received from this group, as well as for the worthwhile, educational discussions they share. He plans to use the support from this loan to purchase a 50 meter fishing net that is made from a special material. With the remaining funds, he plans to purchase buckets, tubs, hooks and other fishing implements.
