Neojali's story

Neojalí is 51 years old, the father of a family, and he and his two sons work the land and have been agricultural laborers for many years. He lives in a community situated in the South of Costa Rica in Concepción de Pilas, Puntarenas, called La Danta. The local economy is based on agricultural activities where the principal production is tubers, coffee, corn, beans, and small animal production. He is asking for a loan of one million thirty five thousand Colones (¢1.035.000) to buy sapling lychee trees. This is a small fruit with an agreeable flavor which is very popular in this country. He also wants to buy an irrigation system to help with the planted trees, and he will also need fertilizers and fungicides to protect his plants during the production process. He is a member of the Community Loan Group of Denla Danta S.A, one of 110 community loan groups in Costa Rica .
