Saoya's Group's story

Saoya lives in a village in the Ratanak Mondul district of Battambang, Cambodia. She is 42 years old, married and the mother of three children, two of whom are still dependants. Saoya earns a living as a rice farmer and supplements her income by selling groceries. She has been in business for five years and earns about KHR 26,000 per day. Her main challenge is a lack of capital. Saoya is a member of a two-person loan group which has taken out and repaid three previous loans from Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. These past loans have helped her improve her family's living conditions. This group is now applying for a new loan from VisionFund for KHR 1,400,000 per person. As the leader, Saoya is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer and rice seeds for her farm and also use some of it to plow her land. She hopes to earn more income from her business so that she and her family can have a better life.
