Apresse Doumassou Group's story
The Apress [group] has been created in June 2009, the day the local banc villageois opened. The group’s members are women who all live in the same neighborhood and are very involved in developing their organization. They have a remarkable spirit of solidarity and mutual aid. They mainly work as vendors. Mrs. Diènabou (seated on the far right raising her right hand) is the star borrower of the group. She is 39 years old, married and the mother of four (three boys and one girl). She takes her of her grandson. She has been selling clothing for over five years. In order to prepare for Korité [the holiday that follows the fasting of Ramadan], she plans to buy 30 pairs of shoes at 2,000 West African francs a pair, in order to resell them at 4,000 francs. With revenues from her business, she would like to purchase a land plot and at the same time improve the life conditions of her family.
