San Miguel (Cuenca) Group's story
The San Miguel community bank has seven members who live on the outskirts of el Valle parish, in Cuenca. This parish has a rugged terrain and beautiful landscapes. The locals raise animals, farm and work in commerce. Many work in the city in different activities. The people are noted for their kindness and friendliness. They are people with very warm hearts like our members who are hard working and strive every day to improve their households' finances and provide for their families. One of the members of this group is María Esther. She is 37 years old, single, and doesn't have any children. She lives in her parents' house and shares the household expenses. Her father works in construction and her mother farms. Her parents own their home. María Esther is a seamstress by profession. She learned the trade by studying and working. She now has a small workshop in her home where she works from Monday to Friday making sports clothing. She does not work fixed hours. In addition, she also raises and sells livestock. This is María Esther's third loan as a member of her community bank and she will invest it in buying threads and fabric. María Esther's goal is to further grow her dressmaking business.
