Olga's story

Olga is part of the community bank "La Unión del Esfuerzo" in the city of Talca. She works in the service industry, specifically offering lodging and food and she has been doing this for 5 months. She says that she works for 15 days then rests for 2 days according to the people that she has in her lodging house. She has 1 person who helps her see to her customers. Each room is completely equipped. In these times, she offers service to workers for construction company in the city of Temuco. She buys her food supplies in the supermarkets and gets her furniture and linens at low cost from a distributor, which is economically desirable. She will use the loan to buy a six-plate burner, fridge, and beds, to supply her business. One of Olga's business goals is to convert her lodging house into a hostel so that it will be better known and locate it in the center of the city where she lives as this would bring her a better quality of life. Olga lives along with a daughter, nieces, and grandchildren. Her work dream is to have a hostel so she can offer her family a better quality of live and her family dream is that her grandkids and nieces finish school so that they can have a good future. She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity offered to her by Fondo Esperanza as it enables her to invest in her business. She also feels very comfortable in the company of the other entrepreneurs in the group as they share various activities and interests and this serves as a nice distraction. With regard to the trainings at the meetings, she has learned to run her business better. Talca is in the Maule region in the central zone of the country. It constitutes the administrative, economic, and cultural center of the region, being the most important city of the Valle Central of Chile. There is a curious phrase about Talca in Chile: "Talca, Paris and London." Among the possible reasons for this is that it is derived from a something an Englishman said "Talca is like London" for the mist that often covers the city in the wintertime, like in the capital of the United Kingdom.
