Esther Yolanda's story
Esther is a member of the Los Talvos communal bank. She lives in a community that is part of the El Valle parish in the canton of Cuenca. This region is surrounded by mountains which provide a picturesque landscape and offer many places get away from the city and its routines. The land here is fertile, so many people raise animals and work in agriculture, as well as commerce. They still maintain the culture and traditions of their people. Esther is married. She has a four year-old daughter as a result of her marriage. Her husband is a construction worker. They do not have their own home, so they live in one loaned to them by a relative. Due to the fact that her daughter is still young, Esther spends most of her time caring for her. In addition to taking care of chores around the house, she raises pigs and guinea pigs. She has been a member of the communal bank for three years, and she will invest her most recent loan by purchasing pigs and animal feed. Her goal is to have a sewing shop so she can work as a seamstress. This is the skill she has developed.
