Estrella Del Futuro Group's story
This communal bank called "Estrella del Futuro" is made up of 20 entrepreneurs who dedicate themselves to different jobs, among which are: restaurants, sale of empanadas, baking, sale of plastic bags, festivals, sale of goods, and services among others. All of them belong to the community of San Bernando located in the city of Santiago. Lorena, president of the communal bank, is seated in the first row second from the right in the photo with black pants and a red, white and black striped shirt. She works sewing clothes and has been doing this for the past 2 years. She notes that she works alone from home, Monday through Friday from 9am to 7pm. She usually buys her merchindise in the city of Independencia, which specializes in selling fabrics at a low price and is very economically convenient. With this loan she will buy fabric, thread, and linings for her clothing. Her goals are to acquire more machines and to have people working in her business to increase their income, and thereby achieve a better quality of life. Lorena lives with her husband who works as a construction worker, and their daughter who is 11 years old and in school. Her dream on a personal level is to be able to study a career one day to obtain a degree and work doing something else. Lorena is very grateful and happy for this loan and the services provided by Fondo Esperanza as it opened a door for her to invest in her business. Aditionally, she tells us that she feels very comfortable in the meetings of her communal bank, as there exists much generosity and unity. San Bernardo is a city located 18km in a straight line to the south of the main square of Santiago (the capital of Chile). It is known as the capital of folklore, as the "International Folklore Festival" takes place there every year in January, an event in which artisans of nearby countries as well as those from Chile participate. Later in the year, in April, an event called "Abril Cuecas Mil" takes place, which consists of a traditional Chilean dance performed by the entire community.
