9 De Abril Group's story
The communal bank 9 de Abril is starting their first cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the regional office of Santiago II. It comprises six members and is managed by a Board of Directors, where Galia is Treasurer. The members are involved in different businesses, such as: revolving funds, fruit sales, grocery store, arts and crafts, mattress sales, and cosmetics sales. Galia says she has been a member of Pro Mujer for 15 years, and that she joined through a friend, who invited her. Currently she has a business selling wholesale food products, which she learned from her aunt. The loan she is now requesting will be to increase capital: she will purchase rice and sugar at the outdoor markets in the city of El Alto and will later sell them at several offices. This way of working allows her to generate resources to support her family as much as possible, for she is in a common-law marriage and has five children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says she likes the health trainings.
