Nuevo Amanecer (Cuenca) Group's story
The 'Nuevo Amanecer' (New Dawn) community bank has eight members who all live in Zhidmad parish, Cuenca. This place is surrounded by lush vegetation which allows the people here to enjoy nature. The locals are kind, hard-working people who raise animals, farm and sell products. Many of them go to the city every day to work in different activities. The members of this group are women who never give up, in spite of the difficulties that they have to face every day. They are noted for maintaining their good humor and a desire to do well in life. The women work in different business activities which allow them to remain financially solvent. They also maintain the culture and tradition of their ancestors. One of the members of this group is 37-year-old Ana. Ana is divorced but she has three children from her marriage who are 15, 14 and 12 years old. Her two older children attend high school in the city and her youngest attends middle school. Ana does not own her own home. She lives in a house that she is borrowing. Ana takes care of her housework and her family. As is the case with many women in this situation, she also raises livestock, chickens and guinea pigs at home and then sells them in her community. She also grows crops for her family's own consumption. Ana has been a member of the community bank for ten years. She will invest her new loan in buying chickens and feed for her animals. Her dream is for all of her children to become professionals. The small photo is of a member who couldn't be present when the group photo was taken.
