A loan helped to buy firewood.

Wasso Magni Group's story

The majority of the six women of the Wasso Magni group are married and living in monogamous families. They average 43 years of age with three children each. They all live in the village of Kolotomo in Ségou (Mali's fourth administrative region) and got to know each other via neighbors, marriage and relatives. The group members buy and sell firewood, corn, couscous and local industrial shea butter-based soaps. With a view to increasing their working capital, the group members joined Soro Yiriwso and are on their first group loan. Allimata (standing on the far left of the photo) is a significant seller of firewood in the village of Kolotomo. She is planning to use her loan to buy 20 barrowloads of firewood from the village peasants. She resells it for cash and on credit in the various districts of Ségou to a customer base made up of men and women. With this loan Alimata is expecting to make an average monthly profit of 20,000FCFA, which will be used to reinvest in her business and provide for condiments in her household.
