A loan helped to buy agricultural inputs, seeds, and to pay for the cost of plowing.
Katiereton 1 Group's story
The members of the Katiereton 1 group are married men who average 51 years of age and 6 children each. They all live in traditional families in Nimprodioula, a village in the Sikasso region (third administrative region of Mali). They are working with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to bring their farming activities to a successful conclusion during the rainy season. The crop that they are growing is maize. Standing at the center, in the photo, Adama is planning to use his loan to buy agricultural inputs and seeds, and also to pay for the cost of plowing on a 4-hectare land. Production is sold at the village level, and, after the harvest, at the Sikasso market to a customer base which mostly consists of resellers from the big cities. Adama is expecting average profits to reach 600,000 CFA francs per season. Profits will help him to repay his loan and to take care of his large family's daily expenses.
