Colquecancha Group's story
A group of neighbors and friends formed the Communal Bank “Colquecancha” in the community of Racchi of the Huayllabamba Province of Urubamba in the department of Cusco. This communal bank is formed by people who look for each opportunity to get ahead, and with their daily efforts, give their children a better future. The various members’ jobs include art sales, vegetable sales, dried fruit sales, fattening and rearing animals. (Antonieta has her arm up in the photograph). The member Antonieta was born in the community pf Racchi and lives in that same community. She is a 51-year-old, married, mother of 5 children aged 27, 25, 23, 21 and 15. Antonieta’s principal business is agriculture. She sells her products 3 times a week, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday in the city of Urubamba, but also in different markets in the cities of Calca and Pisaq. She’s been selling since she was 25 years old and it’s going well for her thanks to the determination she puts into her business. At this time, Antonieta is requesting a loan to buy potatoes, beans, barley, corn, maize, oats and other. The members are grateful for the opportunity they have been given and promise to make their payments on schedule. Cusco is situated in the district and province of Cusco, in the department of Cusco, in the heart of the ancient Incan city and is well-known for its arqueologocal sites, historic centre, landscapes, history and for being an enchanting city in the southern region of the country. More specifically, Cusco is known for being a very touristic and commercial area, for its traditional fiesta of “Inti Raymi” and for being home to one of the 7 wonders of the world, Machupicchu.
