Maria Manuela's story
María Manuela is 45 years old. She is a widow and she has four children. She lives with her children in Guaranda, Bolívar province. She is a member of the "Mushuc Ñan" communal bank which is located in the community of Guanto Cruz, Guanujo parish. It is 60 minutes from the office. The communal bank has 11 members who farm blackberries and corn as well as raise livestock and dairy cows for making cheeses. María Manuela is a blackberry, corn, potato, onion and wheat farmer. She also raises chickens, pigs, sheep and livestock. She is requesting a loan to purchase urea, insecticides, liquid weed killers and herbicides. With the help of this loan, she will be able to buy the supplies and improve her crops. Her dream is to have a well-built house. The challenges she faces are bad weather and transportation. In her free time, she likes to weave, play with her grandchildren and enjoy Carnival season.
