Lellys Del Carmen's story

Thirty-one-year-old Lellys lives in the southwestern part of the city and has a business where she makes bamboo furniture. She sells her rocking chairs in high volume to her main market, which is located in different cities on the Caribbean coast and in the city of Ocaña in Norte de Santander. Her business started based on her experience with upholstery and that of her spouse in working with bamboo. That's why they came to the city of Baranquilla 13 years ago and started their own venture, which Lellys has been in charge of for six years since their separation. She employs six people in her business. Her life is planned around growing her business, so that in the future, when she has the children she has wanted more than anything, she will have enough income to ensure their well-being. She currently plans to sell her rocking chairs on credit, but she faces the challenge of not having enough working capital to do so. That is why she is applying for a Kiva loan, which will be her first financing with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. Using this loan, she will buy foam, fabrics, and bamboo rods, with which she will make the products her customers order. Her customers are very punctual, which guarantees the success of her investment.
