Laura Esther's story
Laura, 20, lives with her spouse who is a stevedore. They both live in the city of Ica, Perú, a place noted for the economic development it’s had in the last few years. A large number and variety of micro businesses have arisen here due to demand and requests from new customers in Ica. Laura is a young woman who has a small store where she spends on average 11 hours daily taking care of an average of 20 customers daily. She’s sure that the affluence of customers she’s had is due to the low prices she offers in the zone where she sells. Her customers are currently demanding new products and sometimes she’s unable to sell them because she doesn’t have what they need and this is why Laura wants to buy a refrigerator in order to sell soft-drinks and other types of cold beverages; she also wants to buy some shelves in order to better display her wares. With help from Kiva lenders she will be able to improve her income because with this new investment she will be better received by her customers which will contribute to her being able to reach her great dream: “To have a well-stocked store and to build her own house out of substantial materials.”
