Maria Mercedes's story
María Mercedes, 51, is single and has a son; she lives in Guaranda Province in Bolívar. The “Emmanuel” communal bank has 12 members. This communal bank is 40 minutes from the office located in Recinto San Juan de Llullundongo belonging to Guaranda. María is a farmer growing potatoes and corn; she also has animals, chickens and cattle. She requests the loan to buy manure, seeds, supplies, fertilizer and liquids. With the loan she will be able to save her potato and corn crops. Her purchases and sales take place weekly in Guaranda. The previous loan helped her quite a bit to get ahead and earn new income for her family’s wellbeing. Her dream is to be able to have a vehicle of her own. The challenges she faces are transportation and crop infestations. In her free time she likes to rest, play with her nephews and carnival.
