Rosa Elena's story
Rosa, 41, is a member of the Eugenio Espejo communal bank. She lives in Cuenca, a city that has rich natural beauty and architecture, and since December 1999 has been a World Heritage site. Cuenca has a cold climate but its people have warm hearts and they preserve the traditional culture of their past. Rosa is separated from her common-law husband. They had 4 children: 2 are married and live on their own, one daughter helps with the household chores, and the youngest son is in high school in the city. Rosa lives in her own house and she sells prepared food.and delivers lunches to her customers daily although not on a regular schedule. This is her third loan from the communal bank and she will use it to buy supplies for her food business and also to purchase basic staples to set up a small store. Her goal is for her businesses to grow.
