Intizar's story

Intizar is a 43 year old married woman with four children. She is an internally displaced person (IDP) and lives in Bilasuvar IDP Settlement. Intizar has bred cattle for the last 7 years. Formerly, she was a housewife but her husband`s salary was too low to cover the family's needs so Intizar decided to start her business. She receives 100 AZN in monthly government financial support but this is insufficient to cover her family's needs. Intizar usually buys small calves, raises and fattens them for 5 to 6 months and then resells them for a higher price in the livestock bazaar to earn a profit. Her monthly income is 350 AZN and this business is a main source of financial income in her family. Intizar also sells home products. Meat is in very high demand in Azerbaijan and people use it in everyday dishes like pilau and dolma. Intizar also keeps dairy cows for personal use and for selling to neighbors. She wants to expand her business and improve her family's living conditions. She applied for a 1000 AZN loan in order to purchase one dairy cow and one calf.
