Mujeres Con Decisión (Cuenca) Group's story

The communal bank "Mujeres con Decisión" [Decisive Women] is made up of 12 members who live in different parts of Cuenca, capital of the province of Azuay, which is known as the "Athens of Ecuador". Cuenca is known as a cultural city of the country since it was designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in December of 1999. Its people are polite, kind and preserve their village traditions. Our members are hard workers, persistent, and through their labor they provide financially to support their homes. Albertina is one of the group members. She is 42 years old, married, and had 2 children of 21 and 17 years of age. Her first son works and helps her financially. Her second son is a college student in the city. Her husband is not in the city since he has gone overseas to bring them a better standard of living. The house in which they live belongs to Albertina. She works in an embroidery workshop from Monday to Friday part-time and spends the rest of her time as a housewife. This is her first loan with the communal bank to which she was invited by a friend. The loan will be used to buy poultry to raise them and start her own business. Her goal is to one day own a boutique. The small picture attached is one of the associates who was unable to be present when the group picture was taken.
