El Huique Group's story
The communal bank 'El Huique' is formed of 16 entrepreneurs who work in a variety of different fields, including grocery stores, handicrafts and candy makers, among others. They are all from the city of San Fernando. Rupert is a member of the communal bank; he appears in the photo standing up in the middle of the second row wearing a green, short-sleeved polo shirt and he has a mustache. He works selling fruit, vegetables and other groceries from premises located inside his house. He has worked in this business along with his wife for 20 years, every day of the week from 9am to 11pm. He tells us that his customer base has grown over the years. He will use the loan to stock up his shop. One of his business goals is to increase sales. Rupert lives together with his wife, and one of their personal dreams is for their business to continue prospering, so that they can give their family a better quality of life. He is very grateful for the opportunity provided by the Fondo Esperanza (the Hope Fund) as it allows him to invest in his business. He says that the group of which he is part is very good and its members are very close. With regards to training, he says that it has made him able to perfect his knowledge, despite his commercial experience. The city of San Fernando is located in the Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins region in central Chile. The economic activity of the city is based mainly on agriculture (vineyards, orchards and the cultivation of beetroot, tobacco, wheat and traditional crops), plus agro-industries (companies who export fruit, canned food, dairy products) and commerce.
