Daysi Janeth's story
Esfuerzo y Poder Communal Bank meets every two weeks in Olmedo Canton in the province of Manabí. This place is known for its pretty landscapes and the hardworking people who work in agriculture and raising animals. This is where we met Daysi. She is 52 years old and the single mother of a 16-year-old daughter who studies in high school. She is a founding member of the communal bank. She is the president of the group and she likes it because her companions are very close and dependable. She has a department store in the center of the canton where she sells a little of everything. In her place her customers find household appliances, plates, cushions, costume jewelry, clothing, and diapers, among many other products. She works there every day from 8:00 until 5:00. Sometimes her daughter helps her in her work when she is not busy. She has had her place for more than 15 years, and thanks to this business she has been able to get her daughter ahead. This loan is to stock her business, to buy costume jewelry, household appliances, and clothing, among other products. Her dream is that her daughter will be a professional.
