Las Rosas Group's story
This community bank is called “Las Rosas” and it has 16 members who all work in different business activities including running a tire repair shop, selling costume jewelry, producing nuts and dried fruit, hairdressing, making handicrafts, baking, etc. All the members of the bank live in the town of La Serena. Cecilia is a member of the community bank. She can be seen in the front row of the photo, second from the left. She is wearing a long, checked skirt and a printed blouse. Her hair is dark brown and she has bangs. Cecilia's business is making school clothes and soft furnishings (drapes). She also upholsters bus seats. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, Cecilia upholsters bus seats and, during the rest of the week, she makes clothes and soft furnishings. She works from home and, a short while ago, she extended her home. In her home, she has three different sewing machines: two regular machines and an overlock machine. All three are industrial machines. Cecilia has been in this line of work for 10 years and she is continually increasing her knowledge in her field. She buys her supplies from a distributor. Cecilia will use her loan to buy supplies for her sewing. She will also buy material with which to recover bus seats. Her goals are to set herself up in her own workshop and to own more machines, in particular an embroidery machine as companies are asking her to make institutional logos (emblems). She would also like to provide a source of work for other people. Cecilia lives together with her daughter who is studying. One of her dreams is to set herself up in her own workshop so that she can make more income and thereby provide her family with a better quality of life. She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity that Fondo Esperanza are giving her to invest in her business. She says that the group she belongs to is very committed and responsible.
