Unión Progreso Group's story
The communal bank "UNIÓN PROGRESO" is in its second cycle of the Pro Mujer program at the Germán Busch social center. The group is comprised of eight members and the board of directors is chaired by Mrs. Basilia. The communal bank's members all have different businesses, among which are sales of food sales, fruit, softdrinks, vegetables, ornamental metal plates, mesh and pastry. Basilia has been working with Pro Mujer for two years and she joined the institution by invitation from a friend. She has a macramé blanket business which she has been in for several years. The loan she is requesting is to increase her working capital to buy fabric in La Paz. She will then sell her finished products at markets in other departments. This type of work allows her to generate an income to support her family. She lives with her common-law husband and three children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says it is the loan program.
