Santa Catarina Group's story

This group is called Santa Catarina. It is made up of eleven indigenous women who speak the Mixteco language. They are proud of their jobs and their small community. The group representative is Raquel, who is twenty-five. She is a hardworking, honest person, who wants to get ahead every day and help her family. She has worked selling clothes for three years and her business gives her good earnings so she can have extra money. She is happily married to Gerardo who has worked planting corn for seven years. She has three children: Luz Violeta, who is seven and in the second grade. Juan Gerardo is four and in the second year of pre-school, and Rosa Cristina is three and in the first year of pre-school. She tells us that she asked for the loan to buy more young peoples' clothing such as pants, skirts, blouses and t-shirts. The other members are: Cecilia-she sells Mexican snacks. Leticia-she sells artisanal clothing. Tomasa –she sells Mexican snacks. Cristina-she sells Mexican snacks. Teresa-she sells Mexican snacks.. Rogelia-she sells clothes. Claudia-she sells artisanal embroidered clothes. Felicitas-she sells Mexican snacks. Margarita-she sells milk. Epifania Irene-she sells Mexican snacks.. They are thankful for the help people have given to the Mixteca people who want to give a better life to their families.
