El Jardin Group's story
The new group members are Reina who will use her loan to buy ears of corn, Marisol who will buy blank sheets of paper, toner for the printer and pay Internet access fees, Esbeybi who will buy a large board and a griddle, María Esther who will buy tables, chairs and a three-wheeled cart; the rest of the group are working in their activities that they are developing. Esbeybi is 27 years old. She’s married and has two boys, one in elementary school and the other in preschool. She sells hand-made tortillas, gorditas, picaditas, dobladitas [traditional Mexican fast food snacks]. She requested her loan to buy corn, lard, oil, meats, a large board, chairs and a griddle. She started her business five years ago. Her mother had the same kind of business and she taught her how to make tortillas by hand and to cook. Her business is important because she likes to sell and she has work. She feels proud that she knows how to make hand-made tortillas. Her customers are neighbors, students and field hands. She tends to them well and prepares snacks with love so that they will taste good and customers will return. She’s planning on buying a large board, tables and chairs and intends to do so with the loan. The group members want to say to Kiva and to Fundación Realidad: “We are grateful for the loans. You think about people of few resources and help us get ahead with our businesses. Thank you for trusting us.”
