Josef's story

Josef is 35 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Kampala south region of Uganda. He is married and has two children, of whom one is currently in school. For the past 3 years, Josef has been working hard to manage his small bar, which sells drinks. To help expand his business, Josef has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Uganda shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more drinks for resale, and will help Josef to generate greater profits and pay school fees for his children. Josef hopes that in the future he will be able to construct more rental houses. Josef is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Josef who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
