A loan helped to purchase seasonings.

La Seriedad Group's story

Luz Benita is a member of the 'La Seriedad' community bank. She is a saleswoman. Luz is 43 years old and a single mother of four children. She lives together with her children in San Nicolás community. Many years ago, her father loaned her some money which she used to buy second-hand clothing to sell to her neighbors. Her sales made her some profits and so she bought some more merchandise. After a while, Luz decided to start selling seasonings and learned from one of her sisters. Luz's children help her to prepare her seasonings and then she goes out to nearby villages to sell them. She hitches a lift with somebody she knows. She makes these sales every two weeks but she sells from her home all the time. Luz's main difficulties are the weather and when she can't find somebody to give her a ride because this means she has to walk long distances. With the support of this loan, Luz will buy seasonings such as annatto, spices, cinnamon, cloves, rosemary and linseed. She will also buy small bags and staples with which to package them. With the support of this loan, she will be able to stock her business and she hopes that her sales will increase. Luz's goal is to continue supporting her children so that they graduate. Two of her children have already done this thanks to her work. Luz has been a FAMA client for more than 15 loan cycles and she has been very punctual in making her loan repayments.
