Samith Antonio's story

Samith lives in the Puerto Colombia municipality. He lives with his wife and their five children; ages 2 to 14. He sells fruit there, a business that he started 11 years ago when he came to his native San Marcos, a town in the Sucre department. He initially worked as a bricklayer, but his enterprising impetus continually motivated him. When his cousin suggested that he start a business selling tropical fruits, he didn’t think twice. He started the work because it caught his attention. He would do it with less effort and greater profit. His fruit business is now located at the principal plaza of the municipality. It is close to the sea under a leafy tree where passers-by often rest. A good part of his customers are pensioners from a successful business in Puertos in Colombia. They are trustworthy people, they get together, and he gives them credit for 30 days. His dream is to have his own place and to later on manage to buy a house. Therefore, he works every day in order to do this. He is currently applying for his first loan with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. He will use the loan to buy a new wood cabinet to display the fruit and to start selling tubers and vegetables. His investment will be successful because it is based on the market demand and good knowledge and appreciation that his customers give him.
