A loan helped to buy fish.
Daysi Tatiana's story
Every two weeks, the 'María del Carmen' community bank meet in Montecristi canton (Portoviejo). This is the home of the famous Panama hat. It is a cold-climate city and there are many natural tourist attractions in the area. Here we meet Daysi. She is 24 years old, married, and has two daughters from this relationship who are 9 and 4 years old. Her eldest attends school. Her husband is a salesman. Daysi is taking out a loan to help her husband with his fish selling business. Early every morning, he goes to the beach to buy the best fish which he then transports to Montecristi, on a three-wheeled vehicle, to sell. This allows him to earn enough that his family don't want for anything. He has been in this business for 13 years and it is doing well in spite of the fact that fish is sometimes scarce. This loan will be used to buy fish. Daysi has been a member of her community bank for six loan cycles and she likes it for the help she gets from the loans. Her dream is for her husband to buy a car for his work.
