Yahaira Karolina's story
Doña Yahaira is 31 years old and lives in the village of Campana in the department of Cortes. The Señora has two children aged 15 and 12 years old. She has been married for seven years to Miguel, who is a surveyor. As Don Miguel has stable work, Doña Yahaira previously stayed at home taking care of the children. As they grew up, she decided, together with her husband, to start a business to earn another source of income for the family. She opened a food stall close to a school in the village, and this is where she sells all types of confectionery for children. She sells churros (dough fritters), sweets, water, gum and paletas (popsicles). Her food stall opens at five in the morning, and remains open until 5 in the afternoon. Yahaira has requested her first loan of L4,000 for the purchase of products such as gum, fruit and churros to stock up her business. She wants to grow her business and establish herself as a businesswoman in order to help her children complete their education. The loan will be very useful to her as with it, she will be able to have more products in stock and her customers will be able to find what they want. With a larger inventory, Yahaira hopes to compete with the small grocery stores nearby.
