Fatmata's story

Fatmata is a 35-year-old married woman living in the western area in Freetown, Sierra Leone, near the town of Aberdeen. She has one child, aged 17 years old. The child is currently attending school. Fatmata has been running her business for five years now and sells drinks, cream, provisions and bike spare parts. Her primary income source is from the business of commercial bike, while she also sells assorted drinks on occasion. She says that the main challenges to her business are inflation and transportation problems. She has now requested this loan to through BRAC in order to buy more assorted drinks, provision and bikes spare parts. She says that the extra income from this loan will help her improve her standard of living. Fatmata has plans for expansion in the next 5-10 years, and her main goal is to open branches of the same business. She says this will enable her to build a house.
