Humberto De Jesus's story
At the age of 47, Humberto is a hardworking, tenacious man who decided to start working as a street vendor of fast food five years ago, an activity that’s come down as a family inheritance since his father spent his entire life in this line of work. Humberto says that he’s very happy with his business because he can manage his own time. He works during the week from 10am until 6pm and on weekends he extends his workday until 10pm depending on work load. Humberto needs a loan because he needs to make some improvements to his food stand because due to the rain in Colombia he’s had to close earlier. Because of this he wants to buy a new, stainless steel fast food cart equipped with a tent to guarantee that he can continue working both in the sunshine and in the rain problem free. Besides the cart, he also needs to buy a gas cylinder and to buy raw materials. These improvements will make it possible for him to grow, increase sales and income, and generate one job for the moment but with the hope that the continued growth of his micro business will lead in a few years to being able to help many more people who find themselves in a vulnerable position with respect to employment that will allow them to support their families.
