Efren Flor (Portoviejo) Group's story
The Efrén Flor communal bank meets every two weeks in the parish of Picoaza in the city of Portoviejo. This place is known for being a very commercial area, for its traditional festivals of St. Peter and St. Paul, and for the happiness of its people. This is a group of people who decided to unite and form this communal bank that helps them very much, since with the loans they can improve their small businesses. They engage in various activities such as business, services, and food sales, among others. In this place we meet Rosa, 51. She is married. She and her husband have three children, all of whom are adults, and despite the fact that one of them is married, all of her children still live with her. Her husband is a driver. She is a housewife, very hard-working and a fighter, who engages in business in order to earn something herself and contribute towards the household expenses. She sells clothing of all kinds, shoes, Romanel jewelry, and Avon cosmetics. Her method of selling is door-to-door. She works weekdays delivering her products and she collects money every weekend. She has had this business for 3 years and she hopes to improve it with the loans that she is now receiving from the institution. She will use this loan to purchase more merchandise such as: clothing, shoes, Romanel jewelry, and Avon cosmetics. This is her first cycle in the communal bank, and she likes it because of the speed with which the loans go out. Her dream is to further increase her business.
