Rose Mary's story
Rose Mary is 38-years-old and lives in the town of Fort Portal in the Fort Portal region of Uganda. She is widowed and has 2 children with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 12 years, Rose Mary has been working hard to manage her retail shop where she sells sugar and soap. To help expand her business, Rose Mary has requested a loan of 2000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more sugar and soap for resale, and will help Rose Mary to generate greater profits and pay school fees for her children. Rose Mary hopes that in the future she will be able to own a big bar. Rose Mary is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Rose Mary who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
